With the holiday season upon me, I have been looking for ways to stretch the budget. Last week, I met a mom (Marta) who told me about halfoffdepot.com. So, I checked it out and ended up getting a $20 gift certificate to a local restaraunt for $9.
It’s is basically the same as Groupon. Here’s how it works. You look up your city and search for retail shops and restaurants that are offering deals. The deals are limited in quantity and only available for a short amount of time. You purchase the deal online and then you recieve an emailed gift card almost instantly. And you can sign up for e-mails that keep you up to speed on what deals are available.
The gift certificate I got is for a local pizza place that my Dad loves. But instead of giving him the gift certificate, I think I will just use it to take him out to lunch for his upcoming birthday.
Now here’s a question. What would you think about giving or receiving a printed pdf gift certificate like this? I mean, the amout you give or recieve may be higher than you would have otherwise give or receive? So does the form matter to you? You could always make a more attractive looking gift certificate yourself and attach the official one to it. Thoughts?
Anyway, whether you give one of these gift certificate or use it yourself to buy gifts – here’s hoping this saves helps you stretch your budget this holiday season.
Maybe I’ll see you at Brixx… I bought that deal, too!
I’ll be looking for you!
