Grill Week: Our Favorite Marinades

Grill Week must include a list of our favorite marinades.

#1 on our list is Spiedies!

We LOVE Lupo’s Spiedie Marinades. There’re actually sandwiches referred to as Spiedies. It is marinated grilled chicken cut up into skewer-size pieces and served on bread. There’s a whole series of Spiedie marinades and we like most of them. Our favorites are the Spiedies Original (awesome on chicken and pork), and Chicken BBQ (which is not like regular BBQ sauce in the least). And the best part, it doesn’t cost very much – 64 oz is only $8.99. The most expensive part is shipping, so we buy in bulk to maximize the shipping.

Tip: My parents marinated some chicken in Spiedies Original and used one of those vacuum seal things that sucks out all of the air and they said it was the best chicken they’d ever made.  (I plan to try that once we order some more – as you can see from the picture above, we are about out!)

Stubbs

We also have used several of the Stubbs marinades, which you can find at your local grocery store. It’s not as good as Spiedies, in my opinion, but quite good and readily available. My husband likes it a lot. We probably use the pork marinade for pork tenderloin more than any of the other Stubbs marinades.

BBQ Sauce

We usually Sweet Baby Ray’s which you can get at the grocery store.

What are your favorites?

We were supposed to go to on a trip to Austin in early August, but it got moved to New Orleans. If we ever end up there, we will totally make the pilgrimage to the Stubbs restaurant. I didn’t even know there was one. Cool.

Hey – I put one of your quotes on the home page, but I didn’t have a name or location to go with it. If you think of it, will you drop me a note with the name, and I am guessing Austin is where you are located…thanks!
