Timing is Everything When You Are Stalking Yard Waste

I invited two friends over for Girls Night In to make wreaths tonight. I had everything ready, just needed to get the fresh greenery.

2 hours til go time: I go to Lowe’s. I bought some black garbage bags to put the tree trimmings in. While I was doing this, a couple of people were cleaning out the entire bin of tree trimmings. Stress. I saw a guy with a bundle of trimmings and jokingly said, “you’re killing me!”

“Timing is everything.” he replied with a smile.

I was polite, but if you could have read the bubble over my head…

Stress. I don’t want my small event to be a bust. And a wreath-making event where no one makes a wreath is a definite bust.  So, I went to The Home Depot.

Wouldn’t you know it. The same (pardon me) whores who took all the stuff at Lowe’s have cleaned out The Home Depot, too. The tiny girl there netting the trees said there had been a huge basket full just a few minutes ago.

My ears went hot. This is one of those situations in which one of my worst character flaw rears its ugly head.  I am unbelievably impatient.

1.5 hours til go time: I made the decision to do it. I stalked yard waste.

It was freezing. And I was thankful I had gloves. I hopped back and forth from foot to foot watching with bitterness as happy families held up tree after tree after tree, trying to make their momentous decision.

This one family even had a Dad on crutches. For the love of God! The man is on crutches would you just pick your tree so I can swoop in like a vulture and get the trimmings?

With only an hour left and my nose running, I gathered up my sad little branches and jogged to the car. Back to Lowe’s. Think positive, think positive. SCORE!  Got lots of branches, but I twitched all the way home.

The girls have come and gone and we had a good time.  And I still can’t believe I stalked yard waste.

Okay here it is:

TIP: You can get free tree trimmings at Lowe’s or Home Depot to make wreaths or garland with for your home. It makes for a great girls night activity. And it’s free. But it IS subject to availability!
