The Dog Walkers

Recently the doorbell rang and it was three little girls from the neighborhood. They introduced themselves and asked if we had a dog because they were starting a dog walking business.

We don’t, but I pointed them in the direction of the right houses.

I have to tell you, it totally made my day to see these three young entrepreneurs in action.

A few days later, I noticed a sign in the neighborhood that said “The Dog Walkers.” I couldn’t help myself – I hopped out of the car to take a picture. Here is their sign (minus their phone number).

How cute is THAT?!?! I love that they broke it out by size of dog, and that they are running a special on obedience training. Oh, and there’s no tax and they don’t take checks. Awesome.

Intrigued, I wanted to learn more.

Fifteen-year-old Michaela Sparks and her two nine-year-old employees Emily Walker and Promise Simpson started the business.

After speaking with Michaela, I was very impressed. Not only is she a very responsible girl, she is truly passionate about animals. Her motivation to start the business is to raise enough funds to have her own dog neutered.

She also has a lot of experience working with dogs and knew that she would need help – hence the employees. (To that I say…SMART girl!)

They even have uniforms. Michaela drew pictures of dogs with markers on some old shirts that they wear when they walk the dogs.

It’s professional and great advertising if you ask me.

Additionally, she knew that the two nine-year-olds probably wouldn’t have enough credibility to secure clients on their own so, Michaela acts as their manager. She even has training sessions for them to ensure they know how to properly care for the dogs of their clients. Impressive, right?

I wonder what else we will see from these young entrepreneurs. They even inspired my kids to start a business. More on that…tomorrow.
