The following is a guest post by one of my dearest friends, Angie. I LOVE this idea.

The Goodnight Book

By Angie S.

Our family is very important to us, but they do not live close by, so we do not see them often.  And, when our son was born two-years ago, we wanted to make sure he knew and loved his family members even if he didn’t get see them all of the time.

So, during the first month or so of his life, my son was introduced to each of his family members in person, and I photographed him with each of them.  Then, I went to my favorite photo website – Shutterfly – and I created a photo book containing photos of my son with each of his family members (mommy, daddy, his pets, grandparents, great grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins).   I also included several photos of him sleeping as a baby.  I called the book his goodnight book.  And, I wrote a poem and created a personalized book just for my baby.

And, as we put him to bed for at least the first year of his life, we read his goodnight book to him and we said goodnight to each of his family members.

As my son has gotten older, his bedtime routine has changed, so we do not read the goodnight book every night.  But, it is wonderful to read the book with him now and see him recognize each of his family members and call them by name.
