Easter is coming and my kids are already beside themselves with chocolate anticipation. Mostly Charlie (5) known around here as the candy bandit. In fact, one of my favorite Easter memories as a mom is this picture, which says it all.

Every Kid’s Dream: A Candy Trough!

Tip: Don’t cheap it out.

When it comes to Easter candy, I’ve learned not to cheap it out. Buying the el cheapo chocolate bunny from the discount store is a mistake you only make once. There’s nothing worse than biting into your kids bunny (oh, you know you do it) and experiencing some foul, waxy chocolate. Ew.

So now I get the good stuff. Because my kids like it (and so do I).

Here’s what my kids are getting this year:

  • Reese’s Hershey Egg
  • Cadbury Eggs
  • Cadbury Mini Eggs
  • Peppermint Patties
  • Chocolate Eggs

You can’t go wrong with a classic chocolate bunny, but my kids are HUGE fans of Reese’s cups, so the last couple of years, we’ve bought the giant Reese’s Cup Egg as the main chocolate attraction in their baskets. I usually get my husband the smaller Reese’s Eggs and my parents get chocolate bunnies.

And, of course, Cadbury eggs. I like the little ones as well as the big ones.

My kids also like Peppermint Patties and I plan to add some Kit Kats to the baskets this year, especially for my daughter, Molly. I didn’t realize they had an easter version and those are her favorite.

Tip: Include something they DON’T like that you do, so you are guaranteed at least something in there.

I talked to a friend of mine this morning and she was at Target buying Easter candy before their spring break trip because she wanted to make sure she had all the best options to choose from. I guess I better get on it, too.

Have you bought your kids’ Easter candy yet?

Hershey’s sent me a basket of goodies, so now all I have to do is duplicate it for my other kiddo and we are all set. But for the record, buncha Hershey’s is what I would be buying anyway. Thank you Hershey’s!

I’m stocking up now on basket stuff! However, I eat waaaaaay to much of their candy so I’m balancing it a bit in the non-candy favor. I found two B Bear books, some el cheapo easter bracelet thingys, and some toast cutters (pressed into toast, it makes shapes like a cookie cutter). Of course there is still the (good) chocolate in the form of a bunny for each of them, wrapped chocolates with cute spring time pics on them and some choc eggs inside plastic eggs (makes it seem like there’s more candy). Hope they won’t be unhappy that there isn’t more, but my thighs won’t be bigger either!! :)

Like Halloween, it’s generally a good idea to wait until the last minute to buy the candy so I won’t be tempted to eat it.

You know, now that I think about it, I bought some stuff on clearance after Easter not last year, the year before. See that’s my problem with going for deals – I forget what I bought. It’s a bunch of prize type things that would be good for an Easter basket.

I better go look through that and make sure I use it this year.
