A $52 Lesson

Just because it costs more, doesn’t mean it’s better.

A friend and I went to Soma Intimates for the first time recently. I have heard their pajamas are to die for. She had a $20 off $100 Soma coupon that she got after buying someone a gift certificate, so we decided to go check it out.

Nice store, nice people, the pjs and tank tops were super soft. My friend decided to have a bra fitting. So while she was doing that, I checked out the store.

The clerk helped her (and later, me) find bras that might work for us.

I found one I liked but it was $48. That’s a lot of money for a bra. I haven’t bought any for a long time and I really needed to get some, but I am more comfortable spending only $25 or so.

Wooed by the promise of “better,” I bought the bra. One bra. With tax, it was $52.

I wore it and the wire pokes me in the boob. The receipt says clearly you an only return unworn garments. If I sold unmentionables, I would have that rule, too. But I expected it to be all wonderful and it’s totally annoying. And I can’t even return it. And because I spent so much money on it, I feel like I have to wear it.

Still in need of bras, my mom and I went to a department store and I found a bra I love (by Olga) that was $34 and buy one get one half off. So, I got two of those and had a $10 off coupon. With tax it was $48 for two. More in my comfort zone for spending and definitely a better bra for me.

Kind of mad at myself for the Soma bra splurge that didn’t work out. That was a $52-dollar lesson learned.

Have you ever  splurged on something and regretted it?

I’m so glad you posted about this! I’ve been making some Victoria Secret bras “work” for about a year now despite them being uncomfortable and starting to fall apart within a month of purchase. I was considering trying Soma, but now I’ll go back to old reliable – department stores. Much better selection and prices!

      Hiya Sherryl,
Hope all is going well since your move. I will say Soma had a sales rack and several of those were $25ish. (Of course, there was nothing in my size on the sale rack.) But I wouldn’t pay full price. Well, again.

      Happy hunting!
      Hedda
