How to Always Have Scissors and Tweezers

My husband gave a leatherman tool as a groomsman gift to the guys in our wedding. He got them engraved and there was an extra that said “Billy Bad Ass,” which somehow ended up on my mother’s key ring. It turns out they are very handy, so I got one, too.

As a Mom I just never know what I’ll be dealing with on any given day. From removing splinters to cutting the tags off of a change of clothes I was forced to buy, there is one thing in my garbage can of a purse that I would not want to be without.

A leatherman’s tool.

Huh? What? A pocket knife? (Classy. Yes, I know.) But , because I have one on my key chain, I always have scissors, tweezers, a knife, etc.  This small hunk of metal is a fantastic tool for any mom to have on-hand. I totally recommend that you get one; It will pay dividends. I also think it makes a great gift. Not that we would ever see that on a registry. Diaper bag…check! Pacifiers…check! Pocket knife…come again?

I really wanted to get one for my friend who just had a baby, but she works in a courthouse, so not a good idea.

On that note, don’t forget to take it off of your key chain if you are going to fly somewhere. But if you are a mom on the ground and don’t work in a government building, you really should consider getting a leatherman’s tool.

This is funny, because I told Iris a few weeks ago that I want a pocket knife for my birthday. Chris has a fancy one – I just one the old fashioned kind. Maybe with a pretty pearl handle. :)

This would be handy, but it would totally be just like me to forget it was there and get apprehended as I went in to the courthouse! I was stopped one time because I had a pair of nail clippers in my purse. Honestly, what kind of mayhem am I going to cause with nail clippers!!??

I recently came upon your blog via Mom Illustrated’s blog roll. This post rang quite true for me since I pretty much use mine for everything around the house from decorating to opening locked doors with a screaming toddler on the other side of it. I had one on my key chain for work. You’d be amazed how handy it was in a healthcare setting as well. Anyway I was thinking why should working in a court house stop your friend from benefitting. She could always just keep it in the diaper bag or that other bag of emergency baby/kid stuff that all mommies inevitably have stashed in the car. Just a thought. Keep up the entertaining and informative posts.
