Mom Tips for the Pool

It’s that time of year again – time to long for my worst pre-baby fat day put on a bathing suit and schlep the kids to the pool.  We are only a week into summer, but I have already seen or thought of a few things that could be helpful.

Simple Pool Toys -You can’t beat a couple of cups and paint brushes. The kids can draw or write their name on the concrete with water. Or my kids enjoy having cups to pour water into other cups (or on me when I least expect it). This also works well for us because they don’t really care about the cups, so if another child plays with one, it’s not a declaration of war. And if we lose them, who cares?

Another winner is a spray bottle. Fun for the kids and refreshing for Mommy when it’s hot.

Same Same - dressing your kids alike. I was talking to my friend at the pool this week and she stopped at one point to check on her two boys.  I realized how easy it was for her to scan and find them because both her kids had the same color rash guards. Smart, huh?  Not that I can do that with a boy and a girl, but I thought that might helps someone else with boys.

Maniacs at the Splash Pad - Last year, I saw a mom with an infant at our local splash pad and the baby was wearing leg warmers to protect her sweet pudgy legs as she crawled around on the pavement.

Dresses as Cover Ups - Because I definitely want to cover it up,  I frequent places like TJ Maxx and Ross. I like to look in the dresses section for cotton dresses that can be worn as bathing suit cover ups. I have two that I wear often and they only cost $5.99 each.

Swim Suit Care - Uh, I seem to be washing my suit a lot all of a sudden. I think I am going to have to invest in a second suit. And won’t THAT be fun (or another episode of me to calling my sister crying from a dressing room stall before I console myself with the nearest donut)?  Anyway, I did a little Googling to find some swim care tips and this one from a swim suit company called Loraine’s that looked pretty reasonable.

What are your kids favorite pool tips?

An excuse to match my boys? Love it! My only tip is to sunscreen before you get there before they’re all antsy to jump in :-) Happy Swimming!

I love dressing my kids alike- I do that for places like the pool or the zoo or any other really busy public place. My boys are usually the ones in the bright orange or some other color visible from space. LOL

I love the spray-on suncreen for my boys. And we try to bring more pool toys than we have kids. Like an extra noodle means they won’t freak if someone else takes one.
