New Orleans Getaway – Part II

Earlier this month, my husband attended a conference in New Orleans and I tagged along for a break from the homestead. So here’s the next part of the trip I want to share.

There are some FABULOUS shops in New Orleans! Here are a few I thought were fun and interesting.

Magazine Street

My friend, Karen, said to go to the Trasy Diva on Magazine Street. She was not wrong. I LOVED this store.  They sell “vintage inspired clothes with a modern sensibility” according to their web site. I really liked this dress (it has pockets), but didn’t buy it because #1 I have another fairly new black dress that is similar, and #2 the dress was over a hundred dollars and I am mostly unemployed.  I picked up a white beaded bracelet for around $10.

I also found a shop called Up/Unique Products with interesting wares made from recycled materials.

I am a huge fan of the old pizza hut glasses (that’s what we call them). We have them at our house and use them every day.

This shade is actually made from melted Mardi Gras beads. Apparently, there’s a real science to melting them – if they get too hot, they actually explode!

This alligator is made of melted Mardi Gras beads as well.

This place was neat – Spruce.

Thought this hanging terrarium was pretty incredible. The small one is $79. And they are made from recycled glass.

Table terrariums.

Funky modern table lamp.

Next stop…Source Interiors and Art

This place was super chic.

Think of the blog posts I could write from THIS desk — poetry, sheer poetry!

Another view of the dreamy desk.

This shade of blue is appealing to me.

This art on fabric was hanging near the ceiling of the store. I thought it was interesting-looking. Wouldn’t it make a neat mural in a little girl’s room?

Cool cubes.

Table. Gorgeous.

Thought this carved chair from Peranesi was beautiful. Chatted up the very kind store owner who said Nicole Kidman had been there earlier in the day and bought a decorative pillow. Yes, that’s right. Nicole and I shop at the same store (although she could actually buy something!). But that’s okay, I love to just look.

And those were some of the highlights of shopping in New Orleans.

If you missed it, here is New Orleans Getaway – Part I.

Next up is the final installment of the New Orleans Getaway and should be prefaced with a disclaimer for my children (should they ever read this).

And that is …do as I say, not as I do!
