The Difference Between Me and Jackie O

I was reading an article on Jackie O in People Magazine this week and something in the article really caught my attention. Someone described her as a “careful eater.” I read that and then looked at all the pictures of her, so slim and regal-looking. I think it was one of her kids who said she would always have carrots on-hand for a snack.

So, I went out and bought some carrots. But have I eaten any yet? Mmmm, nope. Not a one. Which brings me to a crucial difference between me and Jackie O. Careful eating to me means putting the Dorito into my mouth so as not to scrape the roof or sides with any of the corners.

I don’t need to be anyone but me, but I could certainly take that lesson from her. Looking at the pictures once again, careful eating is clearly very effective. One of my health-nut besties (Melissa) told me weight loss is 80% diet. I think that’s true. Darn it.

I read somewhere else recently that the leading contributors to belly fat are red meat (guilty), chips (um, yeah) and sugary drinks (coke, please!). I do manage to exercise regularly, but it’s not a bad thing that the little Jackie O on my shoulder is there to remind me to eat carefully.

Time for me to open the carrots, People.

Are you a careful eater? What’s your go to healthy snack?

I’m careful not to let my pizza burn the roof of my mouth… but in an effort to change my eating habits, my healthy snack has been almonds. Of course, I get the lightly salted almonds, but at least it’s a step in the right direction. :)

(I also have an untouched bag of carrots in my fridge. Untouched for so long that I might actually need to toss them. We all know that’s a long time, because carrots last quite a while. I blame it on the vegetable drawers in my fridge. Once something goes in them, I don’t see or think about that item until my big clean-out-the-stinky-fridge trash day.)

Good point. Pizza is another food to be eaten carefully. I lose food in the fridge, too. Sometimes with yogurt, which I love. But those drawers are like the Bermuda rectangle. And thanks for the reminder, tomorrow is actually trash day. I hate throwing food (and money) away, but I totally do it all the time. There’s a fine line between buying too little and too much. I’m not great at that. And for whatever reason, we always end up going out to eat when we just stocked up on groceries.

Almonds with salt. Will have to give them a try. I remember in the opening montage of The Devil Wears Prada – that’s what the model was eating (although she was only eating like four!). She would fall in to the careful eater category for sure. Models must be so hungry and unsatisfied. I’m not very nice when I am hungry.

So, maybe we aren’t like Jackie O. We can still wear the sunglasses.

Great to hear from you, Sherryl. Hope you have a good rest of the week!

Don’t forget the other junk food staple-CHEETOS! I love salt, cheese, and carbs and hate to exercise. I usually have a protein banana smoothie every morning for breakfast. That does seem to help. And I’ve started walking with some of my co-workers at lunch. But munching on carrots is probably not my thing. Pass the Cheetos and the Jackie O glasses! :)

Careful eater = no joy in foodville.
Or maybe I am just not ready to put down the potato chips.

I’m so glad I am not alone in chip-loving. Thanks for your comment. Hope you are having a good one!
