Back to the story…
My son Charlie (4) wants to be a snowman for Halloween this year. He loves the movie Frosty the Snowman and watches it year-round.
And since a snowman is not an easy-to-come-by costume, I thought, I’m crafty, I’ll just make it! And it will only take about 20 minutes to complete! (Sure.)
It all started out so tra-la-la at JoAnn’s with a great discount on the perfect snowy-looking fabric.
Here is picture I took before the madness. Note the cheery pumpkin.
The fuzzy fabric I got cost only $6, but it wasn’t sewing very well in the machine. I decided I better go get some thinner fabric.
Back to JoAnn’s. Charlie and I got a remnant of white fleece for only $3, but when I got home and tried to sew it, I realized the Singer 2010 was none too happy with me.
The sewing machine was NOT cooperating, and I was getting pissy. Really pissy. You can see my physical transformation in the first 30 seconds of this video.
Why can’t things just work?! Why does everything have to have an impediment?
My cheery disposition had “up an vanished like a fart in the wind.” (The Shawshank Redemption).
With two bundles of white fabric that I could not sew, I became the mad costume-maker. I didn’t care if I messed it up. There was nothing to lose at that point. I was cutting on that fabric with stabby little cuts, taking out some of my frustration on poor Frosty and managed to whip up a pretty cute costume. Is it a sturdy? Mmmm, well, it will last for Halloween night. Beyond that, I don’t really care. He melts anyway, right?
One thing I know for sure is this is the LAST costume I will be making for a long while. Next year…its Party City and a cookie. The cookie is for being smart enough to save myself the trouble.

Hello, I am in Chicago and would like to have saeval costumes made. I have no idea of the cost but I am exploring. The costumes would resemble “backpacks” . A child of about ten years old would wear them. The head would not be visible. The arms could be the straps. Could you point me in the direction of someone who could these for me?
