My Funny Valentine

Wear some old jeans is all my husband would tell me about my Valentine’s Day surprise. I also learned we had a reservation from 7 pm to 9 pm, and we needed to eat something ahead of time. Hmmm. So, it’s not dinner. What could it be? Of course I tried to guess, but was unsuccessful, because the place we were going was new.

My sweet husband surprised me for Valentine’s Day with a reservation at Knoxville’s new art event location called Sips n Strokes. Having never heard of this kind of place before, I was really confused when we got there. We signed in at the front desk and I saw a stack of blank canvases. Confused, I asked, “Are we painting?”

“Yep,” he said. He had brought some red wine and a wine glass from home. And we painted.

And I drank. And the more I drank, the better my painting looked.

The class was taught by an artist named Will Davis. He was great at putting everyone at ease and making it fun.

Everyone seemed to be having a great time. (Then again…my glass was half full, then empty, then half full again). There were around 20 people at easils embibing and letting their creative juices flow.

Since it was Valentine’s Day, we were painting a picture of a heart.

Each class features a different painting, and you can check the web site to see when different paintings will be demonstrated. This place is also a franchise, so you can check the site for a location near you. (So far it appears they just have locations in the southeast U.S., but I imagine they will be expanding).

We ended up leaving early because I wasn’t feeling well, but they were super nice about it and even gave us passes to come back another time. So, I can add excellent customer service to my Sips n Strokes experience. And how sweet is my husband to surprise me with something like this? Love him.

I think this would be a really fun girl’s night out. Have you guys done anything like this before? Anyone else get surprised this Valentine’s Day?

I went on a girls night to Spirited Art in Bearden a few weeks ago. It was so much fun (the painting and the wine!).

That’s so fun. What did you paint? Did you hang it?

Such a creative idea. And, although sad to hear you weren’t feeling well, glad you got passes to go back!! Pretty hearts too – are you hanging them?
