A View From the Plastic Surgeon’s Office

“If you can laugh at it, you can live with it.” ~ Erma Bombeck

(Or in my case, laugh at it and then have it surgically removed.)

So, I have this lump…but as lumps go, this is the kind you want to have because it’s not dangerous. It’s on my face (lovely, huh?) and a trip to the dermatologist told me it’s a cyst that needs to be removed by a plastic surgeon to minimize the scar.

So, at 36, I found myself in the waiting room of a plastic surgeon’s office. And let me tell you, it was faaaancy – not like a regular doctor’s office. You might say this office had had substantial cosmetic work done. The waiting room was quite stunning actually. I sat in a square leather chair with carved wood detail and watched a flat screen TV next to an etagere filled with interesting objects. And I have to be honest and say that I was studying the patients as well as the room.

One lady, adorned in her stone washed jeggings and tank top was filling out forms. She spoke to her husband in a loud and very southern voice, “It says here that second-hay-and smoke will affect the heal’n.”  He looked at her and nodded in acknowledgement. “We better tell Day-ady,” she warned.

Just when I was getting into it, I was called back to an exam room. And it was fancy, too! Since I was by myself, I snapped a few pictures on my phone.

Check it out.

Look at this lamp.

I just realized you can see me a little in the mirror taking the picture. (No need for a flash with my blindingly white legs in the room).

After speaking with the surgeon I was waiting for the nurse when I suffered at the expense of my Droid. I googled images of my ailment.  Never a good idea, but I guess it’s human nature. I just couldn’t help myself.

The out patient surgery is set for a week from Monday. It’s a good thing, too. It’s on my right cheek and the bigger it gets the more people it hangs up on people when I use my smart phone. Sorry, Sister, my cyst hung up on you!

So to re-cap:

I have a lump, but it’s the good kind, and I ended up in a plastic surgeon’s office in my 30′s, but there was good people watching!

Been to any places with interesting people lately? Where do you think the best people watching happens?

Absolute best people-watching is at the Mall, and if there’s not one nearby, the second-best is Wal-mart!

I think it’s Wal-Mart after midnight. You go there then and you are likely to see someone shuffling along in their bath robe and slippers with curlers in their hair.
