Raindrops Keep Fall’n on My Head

Back in April there was a hailstorm that did for roofers in Knoxville what the hurricane did for Forrest Gump and Cap’m Dan’s Bubba Gump Shrimp business. Almost everyone I know in town (including us) is scheduled to get a new roof. We weren’t in a big hurry, because we didn’t have any leaks.

Ahem, or so we thought.

It was raining (and had been raining nonstop for two+ days). We were going to bed late – about 12:30 – when my husband suddenly hopped up and said he needed to turn on the light. “Watch your eyes!” he said.

Squinting, I sat there waiting, listening, wondering what was up.

DRIP!

A huge raindrop fell into the center of my husband’s pillow. We looked up to see water pooling into drops at three points on the ceiling directly above our bed.

We decided to move the bed out from the wall and just sleep in the middle of the room. But moving the bed proved more difficult that I thought. We needed to take the lumpiest and heaviest mattress ever manufactured off in order to move the bed. So my husband got on one side and pulled, and I got on the other side and pushed. He yanked harder than I expected. Boom!  Totally face planted. I fell forward with abandon, smashing my already-need-to-be- replaced glasses and banging my shins into the wooden side rail of the bed. “Ow-how how!”  I whined. We laughed, because even though it hurt, it was 1 am and we were slaphappy.

We tipped the mattress up on its side. With nowhere to lean it, I was forced to hold it. These situations where I have to be still and hold something give my husband immense joy and entertainment because I am the most impatient person on the planet.

So, he took his time moving the box springs and ultimately the bed, while I fantasized about accidentally losing my grip on the mattress and oh no it falls right on his head. Aw…isn’t that sad.

With the bed in place and all the garbage cans from the second floor catching raindrops we hopped into bed in the middle of the room.

It wasn’t going to work.

Listening to the drops was like Chinese water torture so after all that we ended up sleeping in the guessing room (the guest room).

Fortunately, the heavy rains have subsided. Oy.

Still a couple of weeks. Yes, good times indeed. At least we are laughing about it. You should see how mangled my glasses are from the face plant. I should have put a picture of them on this post. Pitiful. on the bright side, the mattress in the guessing room rocks. If only we could find another one like it in a King size…

Haha, I can just picture it! Whenever I’m in one of those ‘be still’ situations, I immediately have to pee. Hope the roof gets fixed soon! xoxo Lori

The roofing people came today and caulked around our fireplace up there, so hopefully that will tide us over until it’s our turn. Such a familiar sound at this point – all the roofing work. Hope you guys didn’t have any problems.
