Okay, So I Have Something To Tell You…

I wasn’t going to say anything in case I fell down, chickened out, changed my mind, but I am planning to run a 5K on Thanksgiving Day. So, you say. Lots of people do that. Well, not me. I don’t like exercise in general. I don’t like to sweat or be sweaty. Pretty much the only things that would make me run are:

Scary man with a gun

Swarm of angry bees

Source

Plate of Fudge

The second time I tried to do the Atkins diet, I had this dream that everyone was chasing me down my street trying to take away my plate of fudge.

Um, yes. That would make me run like the wind.

Source (and recipe)

Fortunately, I have a running buddy, Megan. If I didn’t, instead of running, I would probably just be running with open arms to the nearest ice cream sundae. Anyway, a buddy helps keep me accountable (and shame is a powerful motivator). Peer pressure is definitely required here.

So is candy. I asked Megan if on race day I can tape a Snickers bar to her back and then just chase her. She assumed I was kidding…

(Thanks for helping me with this picture, Megan!)

I am mentally gearing up for race day. I plan to have my family stand on the sidelines to cheer me on. Okay, that’s not true. Really, I just want them there to throw bits of Twinkie in my mouth as I run by. (I’ve been practicing at the Japanese steakhouse – you know how they throw that rice at you to catch it in your mouth?!)

And as an added bonus, running this race on Thanksgiving Day means I won’t feel even the slightest bit guilty about that extra helping of the best corn on the planet. Maybe I will even ask my mom to make me some of her killer fudge.  I know. I’m kinda hopeless.

And THAT is why this is such a big deal. Have you ever run a 5K (or any other K)? Got any advice for a newbie runner?

I really enjoyed your post…I hope you have a good run! The ? is, Is Megan going to let you have the snickers after the run is over? Lol….Good luck to you and all the runners, may God keep them safe!

When I was in high school I did a very short stint on the track team. I only ever beat one girl, one time and that is because she was THROWING UP! So it doesn’t even count.

You know all those people who run and are all happy about it, well I just try to get through it. So I will totally be needing some good thoughts early on Thanksgiving morning. And I probably will pass on the snickers in lieu of some pecan pie. But Megan wouldn’t let me tape that to her back…not to mention what a shame it would be to ruin a perfectly good piece of pie!

Thanks for the good wishes, Jeanne!

I gave up office candy last week. (Note – not candy at home or any baked goodies that are in the office; just office candy.) It’s been sooo hard! I’d chase that Snickers bar for 5K! Good luck with your run!

Office candy is the WORST. You don’t even know you are eating it until you are all – hey, where did this pile of wrappers come from? Well, good for you. You wanna know the truth? I sat here with a bag of Hershey’s Kisses as I was putting this post on FB. I know, I know. It’s not good. Not good at all Sherryl. If I could only run AND diet – then I might actually see some progress.

Well, thanks for cheering me on. Hope you are doing well.

Back atcha, buddy. And as for that 10K – after this, I am doing the 5K to couch.

I will put the makings for fudge on my grocery list! You deserve it after your race-so proud of you.

      Thanks, Mom!

Hershey Kisses help you run better. Chocolate is health food. Why else would people put it in granola and trail mix? And that Snickers bar is protein and energy. So no guilt.

    Good luck on your run.

Thanks, Paloma! I can always count on you to have my back (even when there is a snickers involved!). Thanks for the support, and thanks for stopping by TheMommyhood.com. Hope you have a great week.
