A Home Energy Improvement for Only $15

We recently switched from incandescent to CFL bulbs for our outdoor floods lights.  I got soft white, because harsh white CFL bulbs make me twitch. (Especially the indoor ones, which I prefer to use in places like closets).

Anyway, a two-pack of the incandescent outdoor floodlights that we normally buy costs $13.97. The CFL two-pack was only a dollar more, but will last 2,000 hours longer and uses less energy.

After the CFLs were installed in our existing light fixtures, I waited for it to get dark so I could see how they compared to the bulbs we normally use. They were dim, folks. I mean REALLY dim and looked kind of purple. I was all, Crap! No wonder they last so long, there’s no output!  But what I didn’t realize is there is that these bulbs need to warm up. They are very bright once they have been on for a minute or two.

CFL Outdoor Light Bulbs:

• Work well (once they get going);
• Last longer than incandescent ones; and,
• They use less energy which will save us money over time. (Ka-ching!)

I can live with the warm-up, so I’m glad we made the switch.

I used gift cards provided by The Home Depot to buy these light bulbs. But my husband and I chose the product, and my opinion is my own.
