Five Things To Do in 2012

This is me talking to myself – I’m not telling anyone what to do. But as the sun sets on 2011, I thought I would share my thoughts in case any of this resonates with you.

#1 Make Better Decisions

Time is precious, so I need to make better decisions about how to spend my time and who I spend it with. I think this comes down to saying “no” more.

#2 Eyeball Time

I am going to make a concerted effort to try to spend more one-on-one time with my family members. Time having fun, or just simple talk-time. Specifically, I want to be more intentional with my kids and spouse.

#3 Have People Over.

We never have people over. I don’t really know why. Okay maybe it’s because of #4, but that’s not really a good reason to not have people over.

#4 Outsource

I am going to try to find a way to outsource the house cleaning. I am easily distracted in general, so when trying to clean the house I am often waylaid by the discovery of an item pertaining to #5. Basically, it takes me forever and I usually give up before I finish. I don’t know if we can swing it budget-wise, but I would love to hire out the cleaning and spend that time doing something else.

#5 Just Decide Not to Do It. And Move On.

I have about 18 started-but-unfinished projects I need to chuck. But because I started them, I feel compelled to hang on to them (physically or mentally) in the hopes I will actually get them done.

The truth is, if I really wanted to do it, I probably would have found a way to make it happen by now. And if deciding to chuck it is what spurs me to productivity, then this exercise is a good use of time. If not, I will resolve to let it go and move on.

Anyone else in the same boat? Especially the last one, do you guys suffer unfinished projects, too?

I feel ya, especially on the last one. I can’t tell you how many ventures and ideas I have started and left by the wayside because life got so busy or something else became priority. Your right though, sometimes it’s just best to move on and know if it was meant to be finished we would have found a way to do so. And you never know, there’s still time. However, you are definitely not in that boat alone. Happy New Year!
