My friend Rebecca and I took a landscape design class a couple of years ago. That’s how we learned we like plants that thrive when neglected. That notion has come up again and again for me since we took that class.
I have killed plants indoors and out, but, like lots of people, when spring arrives I want to go to The Home Depot and buy MORE plants and plant them. And I do. They are so affordable, I just get what I like and offer up sincere apologies to Mother Earth if it doesn’t work out.
Well, last year I stumbled onto a winner. I picked a plant called Creeping Jenny which has a pale, spring green color and paired it with some dark pink vinca because I liked the color combination. I put them in pots and the Jenny creeped (or crept). It took over, and I totally love the look.
And best of all, I didn’t have to do anything, I just looked down one day and last year’s plant was all happy and thriving. THAT is my kind of gardening.
Any recommendations for other low-maintenance plants?
Thank you SO much for this! I’m a terrible gardener, but I would like something easy to put on my front porch. This is perfect. I might just be off to Home Depot tomorrow!!
Hiya Beth! I wish I was a good gardner, but my interest in it is somewhat fleeting. These would be gorgeous on a porch. Happy gardening, Pal.
