I Spy With My Little Eye…Lasik (Tomorrow!)

Kind of a miracle that I managed to shoot this photo without my glasses.

I totally made that bed so I could take this picture.

Confession Time

I’ve never told anyone what I am about to tell you guys: When I was in the second grade and was called to the room where the school was conducting basic vision tests, I totally lied. I was eight, and I wanted glasses.

Sorry, Mom.

My mom took me to an ophthalmologist.  I am pretty sure they can tell when you are lying there. Fortunately for me (and my agenda), I actually did require glasses.

I remember going back to class with my new glasses and sitting with my elbow on the desk and my chin in my hand while angling the front corner of my glasses at the girl next to me. There was a little square on there that said “E.T.” and I wanted her to see it. Oh, yes, I was super proud those glasses.

Begging for Contacts

Over the years, my vision worsened and my glasses got pretty annoying. I eventually convinced my mom to buy me contacts and wore those for years.

Specialness (I have a lot)

I only wore glasses at night before I went to bed, and had this recurring problem. I would take my contacts out and have absolutely no idea where my glasses were. This meant I would have to stick my face in the drawers or pat around me until I could find them in one of the usual spots. All the time, People! No idea why.

Blepha-what? Blepharitis.

About eight months ago, I had this weird itchy red eye thing going on. Turned out to be a non-contagious infection of the eyelash follicles. (Mmm, pretty). I threw away contacts and eye make-up again and again and finally just realized that the ONLY way to not have the Blepharitis anymore was to wear glasses and not contacts.

I Just Want To Wear Sunglasses!

I’ve been in glasses for several months now and I just want to wear sunglasses. Do you know what I do now? I wear them over my current glasses when I drive. It looks ridiculous and it’s not comfortable at all. My glasses are in the way. My kids inadvertently knock them off, or smudge the glass and that’s annoying. I’m tired of not being able to see. I’m tired of being dependent on glasses. It’s time.

The Solution

I am going get Lasik (tomorrow!) at Tennessee Lasik Associates with Dr. Colby Stewart. I really wish I had done it when we both had full-time jobs, but that’s why God made tax returns, right? Who needs a fence in the backyard!

So here we go, Friends! I’ll be looking for the funny in this adventure and telling you all about it. Stay tuned…

Have any of you guys had Lasik? What did you think?

Yay! You’ll be able to see all the time…swimming, middle of the night bathroom trips, with only sunglasses on! Hope it’s quick and painless. You look so cute in your pic, though!! (And I love your bed!)

    Good luck tomorrow!

I’ll be thinking about you! I know lots of people who have had this done and they love the results. You’ll love it, too! You’re gonna do great!

Thanks, Heather! I’m excited. Scared, but excited! Just think how good all your yummy desserts will look to me once I can REALLY see. Congratulations on your new book, Heather. It’s fantastic!

I’m so excited for you! Chris had Lasik surgery a few years ago. The next day he had better than perfect vision. You’re going to love the freedom!!! Can’t wait to hear about it.

It’s pretty amazing to me how fast the whole process is! Even though I am nervous, I know I am in good hands.

I remember the dinner (Thanksgiving was it?) several years ago when we confessed how we lied during those exams to get glasses. I still remember Mom defending me to the poor eye people when they suggested I was lying because it was so obvious. Poor Mom.

I guess I should remember that as my kids get bigger. Do good tomorrow and let me know how it goes! Come onnnnnnnn sunglasses!!

Did I confess then, too? If so, I totally forgot. I think Molly would absolutely do that to get glasses. I think she wants braces, too, not that there’s much she can do about that. Thankfully. Fingers crossed for straight teeth and 20/20 vision!

Lasik surgery was one of the best things I have ever done, a close second to having my wondeful daughters.

I just threw up a little bit in my mouth. Only kidding. Love you, Mommy! Hope you are having fun in Vegas. (I’m totally jealous!)
