Are You Watching Downton Abbey? (No Spoilers Here)

Okay, I was quite late to the party that is Downton Abbey. I kept hearing about it EVERYWHERE. My friend, Jamie, mentioned it to me a few times, and she and I tend to like the same things. So I finally decided to see what all the fuss was about.

The only way to see season 1 was on Netflix. I didn’t want to pay for that because we pay a small fortune for cable (Homeland, anyone?). But you can get a 30-day free trial, and that’s plenty of time to watch the show and then cancel, right?

Season 1 of Downton Abbey is fantastic (and Netflix is awesome, by the way).

What is Downton Abbey About?

Basically, it’s about an earl and his family and all that happens with them in their home called Downton Abbey. It’s also about the servants in the home and all that happens with them. Very, very well done. Great characters, interesting story lines. The costuming is wonderful and there’s some humor.

Maggie Smith (Professor McGonugul in Harry Potter) in particular has some awesome dry one-liners that crack me up.

This show is different from anything I have ever seen or read. I like it a lot.

Will a Guy Like It?

Bert was very, “Uh, no thank you” when I first started to watch it. He just sat in the chair  to be near me (sweet, huh?) with his iPad and didn’t pay attention to it. At first. After the second episode, he was all, “Don’t start without me!” So now we watch it together.

We watched Season Two on Hulu Plus and Season Three is available online so you can catch up. Last night was Season 3, Episode 4. The show airs on Sunday nights at 9 pm EST and it’s listed under Masterpiece Calssic, rather than Downton Abbey, if you are searching for it and don’t see it.

If you are a fan, I just came across this spoof of the show about Downtown Arby’s. (It will only make sense if you watch the show,) but it made me chuckle, so I thought I would share it.

So, are you watching? If so, no spoilers for anyone else, but what do you think? Who’s your favorite character, or characters?

Oh my gosh the Downton Arby’s cracked me up!!! I am a huge fan of the show, too, and my hubs was a lot like yours: he didn’t want to watch at first, but now he really loves it. It’s amazing how many people like it! What a great show!

Hiya, Friend. Hope you are feeling well. I am so glad I got on this bandwagon. My favorite characters are Anna and Mr. Bates, I think. But Old Lady Grantham is the one who makes me laugh out loud.

Love it! I started watching it a few weeks ago b/c of all the buzz on Facebook. I’m caught up now and officially hooked. I think Old Lady Grantham is my favorite.

I guess it’s been two or three weeks since we started. It was kind of cool to be able to watch the episodes back-to-back. I like Mr. Bates and Anna a lot. Good show. Not sure why it took me so long to catch on.

I love Anna. She and Mr. Bates are probably my favorite characters. And I really like Mary & Cora too.

Yeah. Me, too. It’s a very sweet love. You know, I have seen some pictures of them in real life and the real-life stuff looks like a lie to me. I prefer to think of them ONLY as their characters on the show.

Based on this post, I decided to try it yesterday when I was sick at home. Saw the first two episodes, and I want more. My cable company is currently featuring all three seasons on-demand! Gonna catch up, I hope!

Sorry to hear you are sick. At least you had Mr. Bates and Anna to watch. I love the show. They have such a sweet love. And score that you can get it on Demand!
