Charlie and the Mayonnaise

So, the other day, I discovered that Charlie (6) had made and eaten a snack. That’s very independent of him, and I appreciated that he was taking care of himself. What was the snack? Cheese and mayonnaise.

Uh, gross. So we talked about mayonnaise. Again.

A week or so later, I found him making himself a ham sandwich in the middle of the afternoon. He had a plate and everything. This is a good thing, but this sandwich had more mayonnaise than ham on it, so I inserted myself into the process and he got kind of ugly with me. He frustrated me to the point where I swatted at him and in the process flung some mayonnaise that landed on his cheek. I could tell from his face that he thought that was funny as funny as I did, but he’s really stubborn so he was still mad. And I am really stubborn, too. So, so was I.

That night, as I lay in his twin bed talking with him he said, “Do you have something to say to me?” I paused, not sure what he was referring to so he prompted, “that mayonnaise action..?”

That mayonnaise action.

We apologized to each other and hugged. I got some sweet cheek smooches and said goodnight. He probably dreamed of mayonnaise…

All this reminds me of one of my favorite quotes from when he was three. It will stand out to you among this short list of funnies.

Then you will most likely enjoy the recipe for Pizza Bites. I’m pretty sure this kicked off the cheese and mayonnaise idea over here: http://themommyhood.com/wordpress/2010/01/09/3-minute-pizza-bites/
