A Recordable Storybook Treasure Hunt Eased My Departure for a Trip

As I mentioned, Hallmark sent the BlissDom conference attendees one of those recordable story books. I saw them in December in a magazine and thought about getting one, but I had already spent so much for Christmas I passed. So needless to say, I was stoked to get one as part of the conference SWAG.

Rather than just give it to the kids, I decided to make them work for it. I set up a treasure hunt and the book will be the loot at the end.

(I don’t leave often, so this will be a great diversion if anyone is upset when it is go time this afternoon!)

The book was easy to record – and I even did a little ad-lib message at the end. I know they will get a kick out of it. And I know they will want to push the button and try to record their own voices, but Hallmark was very smart and included a lock inside the battery compartment.

As for the treasure hunt, I typed up a list of locations in a word doc then cut them into strips. Then I will hide them all over the house in a series. It only takes about 15 minutes to do, and they love it.

This is actually a great activity for a snowy/rainy day when you are cooped up indoors. And it can be fun outdoors as well, when its not January.

So next time you go on a trip, consider a recordable storybook (plus a treasure hunt) for your kiddos.

I’m off to hide clues! Have a great day!

We have this too…given by Granna to our little guy. Great gift, especially from the grandparents. Not to be depressing, but what a nice thing to have when the grandparents are gone, a way to hear their voice again and again.

Hey, Brooke! Hope you stocked the fridge, it’s gonna be a cold one.

You know, I hadn’t thought of it, but that’s a really good point. It makes me want to get a couple more and have the grandparents record them.

Thanks for reading, Brooke, and stay warm!
