Mompants Go to Vegas

It’s time for Mommyhood jailbreak — a girls trip to Vegas!

Time to pack. Crap, where are all my stylish clothes? Oh, that’s right — I don’t have any! Well, I have plenty of clothes, but unfortunately most of my mompants fall into the category of Chuck E. Cheese-wear.

In my head, I still dress the way I did when I was working (and younger and thinner). But the realities of my mom-wear became very apparent as I looked at my empty suitcase wondering what I could put in there that didn’t have suburbia written all over it.

To the store! I got some tops at TJ Maxx and when I got home modeled them for my five-year-old, who turned into Nina Garcia from Project Runway.  It was pretty entertaining, actually, and she did follow up all criticisms with “…but, it’s a winner.”

As for the trip, it was a blast –just what I needed. We stayed in The Bella Suite at The Palazzo. It was actually really reasonable when you divide up the cost, and the suite was a key part of our socializing. There was a living room, so we had a great place to hang out and relax. There was good shopping, eating, shows and all-around girl bonding time. We laughed a lot.  I wouldn’t change a thing about it. Well, maybe that I didn’t win more at the slots, but c’est la vie.

And there is crazy-good people-watching in Vegas. Mostly the girls. It seems some of these “ladies” forgot to wear pants. Their dresses were so short, we called them “vagina dresses.”  You could hardly stop yourself from saying something my pal Kristen once said, “Excuse me, but did you know your vagina is showing?”

We also came up with a slogan for a great Vegas T-shirt.  Vegas: No Pants! No Problem!

And then it was time to leave. Sigh.

Reunited. I missed my kids and hubby and they missed me, too. The reunion was very sweet. I’m glad to be back at home in my mompants and at my computer. This kind of trip is such a great reminder that I need to get away every once in a while. I feel loads better (a lot less likely to yell at my kids).

It will be a while before we do this again, but my pals and I weren’t even to the airport before we started talking about where we should go next.

Any suggestions? What are some places you have been that work well for a girls’ weekend?

(And if any of you would like to go away, but now just isn’t the time, here are some tips for inexpensive or free ways to recharge).

That sounds like so much fun! I love Vegas. Maybe for my 40th!

I have heard the Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC is great for a girls weekend.

Good times, sista! I vote for some place warm next time, though I realize that means bathing suits and I’m sooo not ready for that! Perhaps we can plan in advance so I can burn off some weight before I go purchase a v-dress. ;)
