The Alarm Went Off at 3 AM This Morning

My husband and I awoke to the screeching of our alarm at 2:51 am this morning. I knew instinctively nothing was wrong, but we had no idea why the piercing alarm was going off. In our stupor we did our best to problem-solve with the deafening noise clouding our ability to think.

I called the security alarm company, but we ended up having to apologize. It was our smoke-alarm system (not our security system) that was blaring. Uh, sorry, Mr.

We have six electronic smoke detectors in the upstairs of our house. It’s not like we could just pull out the batteries. So, I drug chairs from room to room while my husband got up there and disarmed them. After a few minutes, my three-year-old came out of his room with his hands on his ears. I took him downstairs where it wasn’t quite as noisy and put the ear covers on him Bert uses when he mows the yard. I lifted up one side and said. “Everything’s okay, Baby.” He nodded.

My six-year-old daughter, slept like the dead and didn’t stir once –and she had a screaming alarm not 10 feet from her!

The alarms were all going off and not in unison, so it was like screeching in rounds. It was absolutely maddening. We eventually got them all turned off .

Little Charlie was not about to sleep alone in his bed, so into our bed he went. And we tossed, and we turned, and we are all a little on the crabby side today. I drifted off to sleep hoping there wasn’t really a fire somewhere in the house.

We have no idea what set it off.
