My New Favorite Blog (Other Than Mine)

TheBabySucks.com is my new favorite blog. You know, other than TheMommyhood.com. Oh, Friends, this lady had me laughing out loud with her fabulous sense of humor and mad drawing skills – and not just laughing, snort-laughing.

I think she is the Gary Larsen of Motherhood, and one day we will all be drinking our coffee from a mug with one of her drawings on it. Here’s an example of her work, and below that is a brief interview with her.

The following is a quick Q&A with Heather Hopp-Bruce, mom to three girls, ages 4, 3 and 10 months and author of TheBabySucks (and other breastfeeding tips).

What kind of mom are you?
I try to be really patient and affectionate. At least once a day I hug the four- and three-year old into frenzied annoyance. The baby still grants unlimited cuddling.

What inspires your drawings and why did you start a blog?
The drawings just pop into my head, or rather some semblance of them does; they never come out like I envision, and I can’t draw babies at all.  I’ve been doing them for years as self-therapy, and only started putting the mom-related ones on a blog a few months ago at the urging of a friend.

How would your kids describe you?
Too kissy.

The world would be a better place if only…
We didn’t hear “you sure have your hands full!” every freaking time we leave house.

Most proud of:
Hassling my husband into going on a date with me. He is a seriously hot stay-at-home dad.

Most guilty of:
Emily’s birth was very stressful (I’m working on a drawing of our OB then, aka the Obnoxious Butcher), and I worry that this is the cause of her intensity.

Favorite quote:
My 3-year-old niece recently said to my sister and brother-in-law, “I want you to go on a date night so I can go to Baya and Bampi’s because I love them more than you two fools.”

Do you have any favorite motherhood tips?
Crying never killed anybody. (This may very well be false, but in a limited household sense, it’s been helpful advice).

What advice would give to your first-time pregnant self if you could?
Dear me: It may shock you to know that the baby does not stay a baby for very long. You are wasting a lot of money on that cute infant crap. Also, feel free to pig it up with those pastrami reubens; you’ll lose the weight.

Isn’t she great? Fun, fun, fun. So please go on over to www.TheBabySucks.com and get your laugh on. Happy Friday, Everyone!

Heather
