How to De-Clutter Your Wallet and Key Chain

Do you have an insane amount of store loyalty cards in your wallet and on your key chain like I do? Well, I found a great app for my phone that is helping me with this problem. It’s called Key Ring and it allows me to store all of my card numbers in my phone.

Neat, huh? All you do is download the free app and then use your phone to scan your loyalty cards. The next time you are at a register, just whip out your phone and let them scan it.

This could be problematic if you don’t remember to take your phone with you (or it’s dead), which might happen to me at some point. But I can always key in my phone number if that happens.  I did keep my cards, I just put them in a sandwich bag at the house. I have only encountered one problem with the barcodes on the phone, and that is the gas station kiosk scanner is not deep enough to reach the bar code on my phone (Droid X). I was annoyed by that, so I keep that card on my key chain. Other than that, I really like this app.

You can also receive coupons from the stores through Key Ring, but so far I’ve really just seen one and it was one of those rewards for moving a new prescription to the store.

How do you use your phone to stay organized? What are some of your favorite apps?

UPDATE 9-14-11: I tried to use the self checkout at Kroger and the scanner there wouldn’t scan my phone bar code.

the first time I saw that app, I honestly said to the customer “That’s so cool!”

I don’t have a smartphone, but I’m thinking of making the DH get it for his phone, simply because all those cards get so dirty with his line of work.

I have to admit, I feel kind of hip when I use it. I got a smart phone earlier this year. I resisted paying the extra money, but I couldn’t live without it now. Hope you are doing well, Krissy. Thanks for your comment.
