Tip for Lighting a Real Christmas Tree

Lights On – Lights Off!

Okay, so the point of this tip is an easy way to remove the lights when Christmas is over. (I know, who wants to think about it being over right now.) But, stay with me, I have tell you how to put them on so they are easy to get off.

Putting Lights on Your Tree

I actually learned to how to put them on from a Martha Stewart TV special a long time ago. Basically, you reach into the tree and wrap lights around each major branch from the trunk out towards the edge of the tree.  It makes the tree extra glowy, so I have done this year after year – even thought its a biatch to get them off afterwards because the tree is no longer fresh. That’s the worst part, isn’t it – when you have to go around and around a prickly tree to get the lights off?

An Easy Way to Get Lights Off  Your Tree

I had an epiphany this year and found something that works. Because I wrapped each branch I was able to pull it off each branch. But then rather than going around and around I just left it in a wide circle around the tree while I pulled them all. Then I simply pushed them down and we lifted the tree out. It was super fast, and I will be doing it that way from now on so I thought I would share.

A real tree can be a pain, and maybe one day I will get an artificial one, but, for now, I still love doing it. Do you do a real tree, or an artificial one?
