Christmas in August?

If you haven’t noticed, most of the shops have their beach towels on clearance by now. I picked up a couple for $6 each and had them monogrammed for $6 each. So, for just $12 – I have nice Christmas gifts for my kids, nieces and nephews. And getting them early not only lets me take advantage of a bargain, but it also helps spread out the financial burden of Christmas. Plus, it is one less thing to do in December.

Even if you just pick up some towels, you have 5 whole months to procrastinate getting them embroidered. And if you never get to it, well you got some good towels for a bargain.

Am I some nutso Supermom? Nope. Just poor and finding ways to make it work. For me, opportunistic shopping pays dividends, and monogramming is an inexpensive way to make a gift more personal.

How do you stretch your budget? Anybody else an opportunistic shopper?

There seems to always be a food drive to give to whether it’s through my MOMS Club, neighborhood, postal service, etc.

Since some months meeting my grocery budget is hard enough, I lessen the financial burden of donating food to charity by taking advantage of buy-one-get-one-free deals at the grocery store.

I have a box in the pantry where I drop the free item so that when the next food drive comes along I have a good offering.
